All about me..

I began seriously taking photos in 1999 during my first winter ski season in Chamonix, France.  I was lucky enough to live with a great photographer and ski mountaineer who taught me the basic principles on my 15 year old (but excellent) Minolta SLR.

He was also kind enough to let me tag along with some of the best skiers in the valley; each day continuously out of my depth but with a huge smile on my face.

From the beginning I religiously used Fujifilm Velvia slide film, which created some fantastic slides.  I have just recently started the process of scanning these to digital.

In 2004 I started filming steep skiing, with films presented at the Edinburgh & Kendal mountain film festivals in 2005 & 2006.  This time spent filming obviously meant less time for still images, but continued my education with the capture of light & interaction with people & landscapes.

Around 2007 I started with my first digital SLR.  However, my passion has only recently been reignited to original levels with the release of my current DSLR, the Nikon D800.  It is only now, with this camera, in conjunction with recent editing packages, that I can achieve similar results to my 1984 Minolta!

The last seven years have seen continuous work in the oil & gas industry doing rope access inspection and photographic surveys.

Location

This question sounds straightforward.  I live a somewhat nomadic lifestyle between my wife & two young boys in Stockholm, Sweden and Aberdeen, Scotland for work.  The company I run, Sinergy Concepts Ltd works predominantly with the oil & gas industries there.

The nature of my movements allows for planned photography jobs in both the UK and Sweden, without the normal travel charge you would associate with a British photographer in Sweden and vise-versa.

Equipment

I am happy to say that I have no want in the addictive world of camera equipment.  The Nikon D800 is the highest resolution digital SLR on the market and in conjunction with a collection of optimal quality prime lenses, provides an incredible level of detail & clarity.

Body:  Nikon D800

Lenses: Nikkor 20mm f/2.8, Voigtlander 40mm f/2, Nikkor 85mm f/1.4, Nikkor 105mm Macro f/2.8, Nikkor 70-210.

I have also recently acquired a 1970s Nikon FM2, a legendary fully mechanical 35mm film camera.  I plan in 2014 is to spend more time experiencing the magic of the traditional darkroom and to shoot medium format film on a Hasselblad 500cm.
